Registering Your Accommodation in Hainan

You are required to register your accommodation with the local police within 24 hours of your arrival in Hainan.

If you are staying in a hotel (hostel, short-term rental, guesthouse), the staff who checked you in will do this for you. If you are staying at a private residence, including your own, you or your host should register your accommodation. The quickest way to do this is online using the "Haiyiban" mini-program in WeChat. Scan this QR code with WeChat to fill in the form.

You must truthfully fill in the necessary personal and accommodation information and upload a photo of yourself and of the data page of your passport (see examples for reference).

You or your host can also register your accommodation in person at the police station responsible for the residential community in which you are residing, usually the closest. You can ask the building management office or the neighborhood committee of your community the location of the police station.

You must present the following documentation at registration:

1. Your valid passport containing a valid Chinese visa or residence permit and the latest entry stamp (unless your passport was issued while you were in China and you are re-registering your accommodation with your new passport for the purpose of applying to reissue your visa/residence permit)

2. Photocopies of materials that can prove the authenticity and validity of your residential address (such as the host or landlord's property certificate or a valid rental contract)

3. A photocopy of your landlord’s valid ID document or your host’s valid ID document.

Once your application for accommodation registration is approved, the police station will issue you a Registration Voucher of Residence for Visitors from Overseas. You must retain this voucher, as it is essential when handling immigration matters such as applying for or renewing your residence permit/visa.

Please note:

If you move to a different accommodation, you must register your new accommodation within 24 hours.

Per Article 76 of the Entry and Exit Law of the People’s Republic of China, if you do not register your accommodation within the required timeframe, you could receive a warning and a fine of up to 2,000 yuan.
