In Hainan, fares for local bus routes vary according to distance. Fares are between 1 and 20 yuan in Haikou and 2 and 12 yuan in Sanya. Scan the QR code to check local bus routes and schedules.

The “海南e出行” (Hainan e-Travel) WeChat mini-program can be used to pay fares by scanning the QR code on QR code readers installed on local buses across Hainan (except in Sanya, Lin’gao, and Lingshui). Search “海南e出行” (hai nan e chu xing) in WeChat to find the mini-program.

When you open the mini-program, it will ask permission to use your phone number to log-in, get your location to determine where you are, and also to set up auto-debit for your WeChat Pay wallet. Allowing these will enable the mini-program to automatically deduct the fare from your wallet as you alight the bus.

You can also choose the city or county you are in manually in the top left-hand corner of the QR code page. 

Alternatively, you can use the “Transport” function in Alipay to access 乘车码 (public transportation QR code) for whichever city or county you are currently in, not just in Hainan but almost everywhere in the Chinese mainland. These QR codes are used in exactly the same way as those in the “Hainan e-Travel” WeChat mini-program and come with the added benefit that the interface is in English. 

Haiqi Group, founded in 1951, is a major operator of intercity and inter-provincial bus services in Hainan.

Tickets for intercity and inter-provincial buses can be purchased up to 5 days in advance via Haiqi Group’s WeChat official account or in person at bus stations. There are 4 bus stations in Haikou offering intercity bus services.

Tickets must be purchased with your passport or foreign permanent resident ID card.

To purchase tickets online, find the Haiqi Group’s WeChat official account by searching 海汽客运 (hai qi ke yun) in WeChat or scanning this QR code. 

The account is in Chinese, but you can follow these steps to purchase tickets. 

Select “services” and then the buy ticket option in the first picture. Select your departure and arrival locations, and date. Then, select the ticket you wish to purchase.
