Irish Fashion at Hainan Expo ready break into Chinese markets

With the mission to promote a new Haikou to the world, Hainan is striving to create a never-ending "Consumer Expo". That having been said, the 4th China International Consumer Products Expo (CICPE) concluded on April 18.

Over the past six days, Ireland—as the guest country of honor at the CIPCE—, presented several highlight side events including—as part of the Expo's Fashion Week—the "Emerald Breeze" Irish Fashion Showcase on the 14th so that six Irish fashion designers could debut their brands to the Chinese market.

“Hopefully, from this, we can make some connections with the right sort of stores, either independent luxury boutiques, department stores, and some of the online platforms,” Sharon Hoey (designer of And Tate) stated that this is a great opportunity to show Irish designs in China. It's also a great start and a unique way to break into the Chinese markets.

Sinéad McCormack (designer of Celtic Tweed) shared that she thinks what's different about Irish fashion is things like 100% wool and 100% linen natural fibers that are produced in Ireland, and also classic and timeless designs.  Sara O’Neill (designer of Eadach) explained that Irish designers are doing incredible work with wool and linens. Sara also shares her love for Chinese silk, “I love the heritage that China has textile styles which I think is similar to Ireland.”
