Since the release of the "Decision of the CPC Central Committee on Further Comprehensively Deepening Reform and Promoting Chinese-style Modernization", the 300+ important reform measures within have continued to attract a great deal of attention from the international community. Experts and scholars in a wide variety of disciplines from all across the globe have taken careful note of the results of the Third Plenary Session of the 18th CPC Central Committee and offered their own perspectives on China’s ongoing reforms.

Irene Pivetti, President of the Italy China Friendship Association and former Speaker of the ltalian Chamber of Deputies is not only a proponent of Sina-Italian friendship but has also witnessed China’s rapid development. She has promoted friendly relations and win-win cooperation between the two countries for many years, and has gained a deep understanding of China’s reform and opening up. What are her views on China’s current round of reforms and globalization? In her opinion, how significant is the development of the Hainan Free Trade Port?

In a joint interview with the Hainan International Media Center, Pivetti said that the “Hainan Free Trade Port is one of the most interesting and futuristic ways of interpreting the new opening of China.” She went on to say that Hainan has changed a lot since the decision was announced in 2018 to develop the island province as a free trade port, and is now making great strides towards the future. Understanding the the Hainan Free Trade Port means not only understanding the southern Chinese province, but gaining a greater insight into China’s international leadership. In addition to Hainan’s free trade policies, Pivetti highlighted Hainan’s excellent policies on financial openness, the safe and orderly flow of data, intellectual property protection, and other sectors. “Europeans need to know much more about Hainan policies.” To accomplish this goal, the Italy China Friendship Association plans to publish an article on the topic every quarter, giving an in-depth introduction to all aspects of the development of the Hainan Free Trade Port, helping Europe to understand Hainan more fully.

Pivetti also spoke on the significance of the establishment of a ‘Sino-Europe Council’, set up in Haikou, Hainan by the Italy China Friendship Association. She hopes that this Council will become a new platform for exchange and cooperation between Europe and Hainan. She emphasized that Hainan really deserves to be taken seriously into consideration by the world. “I would say to all the Europeans, please come. You don’t know what you are missing if you do not come!”
