Young people are the most vigorous and enterprising… A nation will be full of hope and have a great tomorrow when its younger generations have ideals, ability, and a strong sense of responsibility.

"The Power of Youth and Dreams," a series co-created by Hinews and Hainan International Media Center, puts the spotlight on ten Chinese and foreign young people who have pursued their aspirations and forged shining stories rooted in openness and innovation during their many years in Hainan and China. Through their actions, they demonstrate their shouldering of social responsibility, becoming a bridge for intercultural exchanges. Their stories motivate others to realize their dreams in China and contribute their efforts to building a community with a shared future for mankind.

On the sea floor of Qingshui (Clearwater) Bay in Lingshui, Hainan, there is a data center lying 35 meters underwater, providing powerful data storage and computing support for internet corporations. The founder of the Hailanyun Undersea Data Center Hainan Demonstration Project is the project’s General Manager, Pu Ding.

As a deep-water engineering technology expert, Pu Ding has over 10 years of deep-water engineering development and technology experience. Never giving up on his dream, Pu has successfully led his team to set up a data center deep under the tropical waters of Hainan. The team overcame several technical difficulties, including how to seal the underwater data center to prevent seawater leaking in and the issue of long-distance data transmission as they laid a solid foundation for the world’s first commercial underwater data center. “Our project is not only technologically innovative, but also explores and promotes the marine industry. We hope that through this project, we can inject new vitality into the development of China's marine economy," said Pu.
