Li Brocade: A Song of Weft and Warp

By / / Updated: 12:53,06-December-2024

Li Brocade is one of the oldest cotton textile spinning, dyeing, weaving, and embroidery arts in China, and even in the entire world. The Li people, who have no written language of their own, have passed the intricate art of Li Brocade down through the ages from one generation to the next through spoken word and memory. On Dec. 5, 2024, Li Brocade was added to the Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity, becoming the first Hainan intangible cultural heritage art to be included on this prestigious list. This ‘flower of the Li people’ has bloomed bright for 3,000 years, and continues to enchant the world to this day. To celebrate this outstanding achievement, the Hainan International Media Center and the Hainan Multimedia Center present this short film showcasing the spectacular art of Li Brocade.
