According to the Hainan Provincial Department of Commerce, during the initial 11 months of 2024, Hainan's trade in services trended upwards. The province’s total service trade volume reached 50.6 billion yuan ($6.93 billion), a substantial increase of 21% over the same period in the previous year. Service imports totaled 26.72 billion yuan ($3.66 billion), an 18.1% year-on-year increase, while service exports amounted to 23.88 billion yuan ($3.27 billion), surging by 24.4% compared to the previous year.

Trade in transportation services, travel services, commercial services, cultural & recreational services, and processing services all increased, with transportation services and travel services making significant contributions to the overall rise.

Two service trade sectors, transportation services and business services, reached ten billion yuan in total trade. Five exceeded a billion yuan each: travel services, maintenance & repair services, processing services, telecommunications & computer information services, and intellectual property royalties.

In 2024, the accelerated recovery of the global aviation market sped the resumption of overseas routes, invigorating the development of Hainan’s air transport services. Meanwhile, the implementation of the "China Yangpu Port" registration policy spurred maritime business. In the first 11 months of 2024, Hainan's international transportation service revenues totaled 21.07 billion yuan ($2.89 billion), marking a 27.6% year-on-year increase.

Of the various trade sectors, travel services demonstrated the most robust growth. Between January and November, Hainan's trade in international travel services reached 6.73 billion yuan ($0.92 billion), a 93.1% year-on-year surge. Exports accounted for 3.89 billion yuan ($0.53 billion), a 180.4% increase over the previous year, while imports stood at 2.84 billion yuan ($0.39 billion), reflecting a 35.3% rise.

With the development of the Hainan Free Trade Port (FTP) over the past years, a series of preferential policies have been implemented, leading to a substantial enhancement in Hainan's capacity to cater to international demands. Adhering to the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership (CPTPP) and the Digital Economy Partnership Agreement (DEPA) regulations, the FTP has continued to conduct pilot programs involving trade in goods, trade in services, digital trade, and people-to-people exchanges. These have achieved progress in several areas, promoting the development of an export-oriented economy in the Hainan FTP.

Looking forward, the Provincial Department of Commerce will leverage policy advantages to promote digital cross-border services with ASEAN and other entities, as well as accelerating high-quality development of trade in services related to international transportation and travel.
