Located at the intersection of the Belt and Road Initiative and China-Europe cultural exchanges, Hainan is becoming a global vacation hotspot thanks to the island province’s stunning natural beauty and welcoming spirit. Mr. Ujhelyi István, Ambassador to the EU institutions (UN Tourism) and Chairman of the Europe-China Belt and Road Culture & Tourism Development Committee, was impressed with Hainan’s development. He praised the tremendous progress that Hainan has made in the travel & tourism industry as well as many other areas over the past decade, saying that he expects the island to become one of the world’s most popular vacation destinations. István also believes that increasing direct flights to Europe, introducing European-style services, and deepening educational cooperation are the keys to attracting more international travelers to Hainan.

In April, the Association of Hungarian Tour Operators and Travel Agents brought a delegation of Hungarian travel agents and tourism media representatives to Hainan for a week-long trip to learn more about local tourism products and travel routes. Sixty-eight Hungarian tourism industry experts offered suggestions regarding China-EU tourism cooperation. During the tour period, Mr. Ujhelyi István was appointed a Hainan Global Tourism Promotion Ambassador. He looks forward to creating more Hainan international brand promotion activities through the UNWTO. Going forward, Hainan’s international development will bring more opportunities from around the world to the China market, and Hainan will serve as a model for cooperation between China and Europe.
